Principal:                Janet Goll

                Janet, originally from South Dakota , is a 1972 graduate of Concordia Teachers’ College in Seward , Nebraska .  She received her Master’s degree in school administration from O.U. in 2000. She has been teaching for 34 years, all of which have been at First Lutheran.  Janet serves on the Oklahoma District Board of Directors for the LCMS.  She is married to Jim and they have one son, Lance.  Her favorite off-duty activity is reading.

 

Early Childhood Education Director:    Kym Puga

                Kym Puga was born in Odessa Texas and graduated from the original "Friday Night Lights" high school, Permian High School in 1983. She has 20 yrs teaching experience. She holds a Bachelors of Arts degree in Education with a minor in Early Childhood Education from Texas Tech University, a Masters degree in Education Administration from Southwestern Oklahoma State University and is currently completing her PhD. in Education Administration Curriculum Supervision from the University of Oklahoma. She is married to Tony Puga and they have four children. Kym also is a professional photographer and holds a AAS degree in Photography and Digital Imaging.

 

Pre-School Teacher:   Lori Kelly

                Lori Kelly was born in Hobbs, New Mexico. She moved to Ponca City when she was four years old. Lori holds a Bachelors in Early Childhood Education from Northwestern Oklahoma State University. This is Lori's second year teaching at First Lutheran. Lori and her husband Jim have 3 adult children, Kandis, Tamara, and Brandon and his wife Cassie. At home they have Brittni a junior in high school, Brett a 7th grader at West Middle School, and Mollie a sixth grader at West Middle School. They also have 3 grandchildren and one on the way. Lori enjoys spending time with her family.  They attend Sunset Baptist Church.

          

Pre-Kindergarten Teacher:                 Jeanne Grantz

                A native of Ponca City , Jeanne holds a B.S. in Elementary Education/Middle School English from OSU and an Early Childhood Endorsement from NWOSU.  She returned to teach at First Lutheran where her children attended school, and begins her 12th year of teaching. We attend Longwood Baptist Church, where Larry serves as interim Pastor.  Jeanne and her husband Larry have six children and nine grandchildren.  Jeanne is an avid reader and also enjoys swimming and walking.  Jeanne and Larry also enjoy R.V.ing.

 

Kindergarten Teacher:        Elaine Miller

                Elaine was born in Germany and received her BS in Elementary Education from OSU in 1979.  She earned her Masters Degree in Curriculum Instruction with a specialization in Early Childhood from OSU in 1994.  Elaine has taught for 13 years, 12 of which have been at First Lutheran.  She has two sons, Michael and Matthew.  Elaine enjoys reading, singing and playing handbells in the church choirs and walking.

 

First Grade Teacher:          Jessica Svajhart  

                Jessica graduated from Concordia University in Seward, Nebraska with a degree in Elementary Education and a Lutheran Teaching Certificate. This is her first year teaching and her first year at First Lutheran. She is excited about the year ahead.

 

Second Grade Teacher:       Carol Powell

                Carol, originally from South Dakota , received her Bachelor’s degree from Black Hills State College in 1979, and her Master’s in Education from OSU in 1986.  She has taught for a total of 23 years and has been at First Lutheran since 1981.  Carol and her husband Phil have twin boys, Jefferson and Dylan.  In her spare time, Carol enjoys reading.

 

Third Grade Teacher:           Edith Hunt

                Edith was born in Bay City , Michigan .  She received her Associate’s Degree from Concordia College in Ann Arbor , Michigan in 1965, her B.S. from Concordia in Seward , Nebraska in 1967, and her Master’s Degree in Education from OSU in 1973.  She has been teaching for 26 years, 23 of which have been at First Lutheran.  In addition to teaching, Edith is the FLS Organizer for the Cub Scouts.  Edith and her husband, George, have two adult children, Tim and Chris.  There are also 4 step children and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren in the family.  Edith enjoys crafts, gardening, playing in the church handbell choir, camping, and traveling.

 

Fourth Grade Teacher:        Cheryl Klein

                Cheryl was born in Kay County and received her B.S. in education from Concordia Teachers’ College , Seward , Nebraska in 1970.  She has been at First Lutheran since 1990 but has been teaching in Lutheran Schools for 21 years.  Cheryl is married to Don and they have three adult children, Rachael, Jonathan, and Nathanael.  Cheryl enjoys reading, helping on the farm, music and crafts.

 

Fifth Grade Teacher:            Shelly Schatte

                Shelly was born in Springfield , Illinois and raised in New Berlin , Illinois .  She received her B.S. in Early Childhood Education from Concordia College in Seward , Nebraska in 1979.  Shelly has taught for 27 years, all of which have been at First Lutheran.  Shelly and her husband, Paul, have two sons, Josh and Eric.  Shelly enjoys home decorating, flower gardening, reading, and especially spending time at home with her family and various animals.

 

Middle School Language Teacher:           Krista Harbeson

                Krista is the language arts teacher at the Middle School. She is a 1987 graduate of Ponca City Senior High School and graduated from Oklahoma State University in 1991 with a bachelor's degree in Secondary Education / English. Krista has been married for 17 years to her high school sweetheart, Todd, and they have three boys, Jacob, Will, and Nate, who all attend school at FLCS. Krista enjoys spending time with her boys at their various sporting activities, which include football, baseball, and golf. She also enjoys running, playing golf, and relaxing at the lake.

Middle School Science Teacher:      Pam Belzer

                Pam was born in Nowata , Oklahoma .  She received her B.S. from Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville in 1981 in math and science education.  She has been teaching thirteen years, 12 of which have been at First Lutheran.  Pam and her husband, Steve, have been blessed with one daughter, Marissa, who attends FLS.  She enjoys spending time with her family, stained glass making, crafts, and reading.

 

Middle School History Teacher:        Gary Watters

Middle School Religion Teacher:        Peg Ramsey

                Peg was born and raised in Franklin Park, IL.  She received her BME (Bachelor of Music Education) degree from Illinois Wesleyan University.  She taught 6th thru 8th grades for 3 years in California before moving to Oklahoma.  Peg and her husband, Tom, have two adult sons and one grandchild.  Peg enjoys reading, singing and redecorating her 100 year old house.  This is her third year of teaching at FLCS.
